Kurogane Blacksmith Workshop
Private Tatara Knife Forging Experience
Surrounded by the deep forests of Shimanto and quietly overlooking the clear waters of the Shimanto River,
Workshop Kurogane offers a rare opportunity to encounter one of Japan’s oldest living crafts.
For more than a thousand years, Japanese blacksmiths have relied on the Tatara ironmaking method, an ancient technique that transforms iron, fire, and human skill into steel of remarkable beauty and strength.
At Kurogane, this tradition continues today through the creation of finely balanced, high-quality knives.
A Hands-On Encounter with Japanese Craftsmanship
In today’s digital age, the blacksmith’s world—defined by handwork, intuition, and experience—has become far removed from everyday life.
This private experience invites you into an authentic forge, where you will work directly with a master blacksmith.
Your journey begins by striking glowing red-hot steel with a hammer, feeling the heat, weight, and resistance of the material with your own hands.
Each step requires focus and care, but the reward is profound:
the creation of your own Japanese knife, forged through a process that has been passed down for generations.
